Who is Ioli?
The idea of Ioli came to me when I was trying to explain to my teenage students the timeless value of monuments. So I told them that when they visit the sacred rock of the Acropolis or the ancient theater of Epidaurus, in the very same spot where they stand, another teenager would have stood centuries ago. This teenager probably had similar thoughts to my students, such as “how great does this monument look,” “how many people had to work to transport these materials,” or even more personal thoughts, such as “what profession should I pursue?” or “I am in love.”
At the time, I thought Ioli could help me convey a universal message: Regardless of time or place, all teenagers imagine an ideal world, and we as adults have a duty to resist their demands.
This is how Ioli was born. She is a beautiful young girl living with her parents and her brother, Iolaos, in ancient Athens. The exact era in which she lived is not fixed, on the contrary, Ioli’s wanders through the great Greek antiquity, without any temporal limit, offer the possibility of transferring the thoughts, experiences and concerns of any young person in a timeless way. Her first adventure finds her in Lavrio, the great port of antiquity with the famous mines of the time.
Let’s accompany Ioli on her journey…
