This year on my vacation to my favorite island, Kefalonia, I met someone who had visited Greece for three times. He had come as a young man with his girlfriend and future wife during college, afterwards with his children, and this time the couple were here just to remember their first trip.

He told me that now that he has a lot of spare time from his job, he was ready to start Greek lessons. I asked him why is that and to my surprise the reasons I heard were unique.

1. He said that listening to the Greek language feels cozy and warm, he feels like “home” to use his own words. No place on earth has never made him feel like his own hometown. He also mentioned that he loves participating in Greek traditions, even in his country through his Greek friends.

2. He loves Greek music and tries to sing along, but he really needs to understand the lyrics so he can dedicate it to the people he loves.

3. He was always an explorer, so through Greek language can take a glance into the window of history.

4. He knows that learning Greek can be a huge challenge for his mental possibilities, and he is ready to explore his learning skills.

5. Finally, he said that when he comes to Greece his dreams are blue and white, so learning to express himself in greek, perhaps can make him extend that feeling even when he is back home.

You see, Greek language for some people means much more than we can imagine. Greek language itself can be a motivation to improve your life, not just another goal to pursue.
